अनुवाद
And if thou art not able firmly to fix thy mind on Me, then by the yoga of practice seek to reach Me, O Dhananjaya.

व्याख्या
This opens the four-rung ladder that structures verses 9-11: abhyāsayoga (repeated practice) is offered the moment verse 8’s direct fixation proves too hard. Each subsequent verse will offer a further fallback for someone who can’t manage the one before it — a concession structure that’s unusually pragmatic for how directive the Gita is elsewhere. The first fallback, offered the moment direct fixation proves too hard: abhyāsa-yoga, the yoke of repetition — BG 6.35’s answer to the restless mind. Each of the next verses concedes one rung further.

Site Commentary
Notice what verse 9 does not say: it doesn’t say “then don’t bother.” The answer to “I can’t sustain direct fixation” is another practice, not permission to quit — abhyāsayoga treats the capacity for stillness itself as something built by repetition rather than something you either have or don’t.

पाठ
व्यक्तिगत
- If you can't yet hold the harder version of a practice — real focus, sustained meditation — practice the practice itself in small repeated doses instead of waiting until you can do it at full difficulty. Repetition builds the capacity the harder version assumed you already had.
व्यावसायिक
- If a skill like public speaking or hard conversations feels out of reach, schedule small, low-stakes reps of it now rather than waiting to attempt it cold at full difficulty — the answer to "I can't" here is never "don't," it's "practice smaller."
परिवार और समाज
- If sustained attentiveness to a relationship feels unreachable right now, commit to small repeated gestures instead of waiting for one grand effort you can't yet sustain — consistency at a smaller scale over an intensity you don't have yet.
