अहं सर्वस्य प्रभवो मत्तः सर्वं प्रवर्तते । इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः ॥ ८ ॥

ahaṃ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṃ pravartate iti matvā bhajante māṃ budhā bhāvasamanvitāḥ

Translation

I am the Generator of all; all evolves from Me; understanding thus, the wise adore Me in rapt emotion.

Explanation

States the underlying claim directly, without the hedging of verses 1-2: Krishna is the source of everything, everything unfolds from him. The verse then pivots to how the wise respond — not analytically but “in rapt emotion” (bhāvasamanvitāḥ) — opening the bhakti register that runs through verses 9-11 before Arjuna’s questions begin in verse 12. Bhāva-samanvitāḥ — “filled with feeling” — is the tell: the right response to Krishna as source is not analysis but love. Verses 9–11 describe what that love looks like from inside and what it draws down in return.

Commentary

Site Commentary

The hedged approach of verses 1-2 — appeals to what even the gods don’t know — disappears here; verse 8 simply states the claim outright. And notice how the wise are said to respond to it: not by verifying the claim further, but “in rapt emotion.” The chapter treats the emotional register as the fitting response to certain truths, not as a failure to reason about them properly.

Lessons

Personal

  • When you finally arrive at a conviction you've been circling for a while, let yourself respond to it emotionally instead of insisting the only valid response is more analysis — this verse has the wise respond to Krishna's claim "in rapt emotion," not by re-verifying it.

Professional

  • When your team finally nails a hard-won insight, let the shared reaction have its moment before pivoting straight back to analysis — this verse treats emotional response to a real result as fitting, not as a lapse in rigor. Not every outcome needs a purely clinical reception.

Family & Social

  • When someone you love shares something that genuinely moves you, respond with feeling rather than retreating into calm, measured analysis — this verse treats the wise response to a true claim as emotional, not detached. Some moments are meant to move you, not just be assessed.
