Translation

Yudhâmanyu the strong, and Uttamaujas the brave; Saubhadra and the Draupadeyas, all of great cars.

Explanation

The roster closes with Saubhadra — Abhimanyu, Arjuna’s son by Subhadrâ — and the Draupadeyas, Draupadi’s five sons. Duryodhana names the next generation last, and all are marked mahārathāḥ, “great car-warriors,” each capable of fighting ten thousand bowmen alone.

Commentary

Site Commentary

The roster closes by naming the youngest fighters last, not first as an afterthought — a sequencing choice that leaves the next generation, not the elders, as the roster’s final and most memorable note. Whatever comes last in an account tends to be what actually stays with the listener, regardless of what came first.

Lessons

Personal

  • When telling your own story, put what actually matters most at the end, not buried in the middle — what comes last is what people remember, the way this roster ends on the next generation rather than its most senior names.

Professional

  • In a status update or presentation, save your most important point for last rather than opening with it and trailing off — recency sticks with an audience more reliably than a strong opening does.

Family & Social

  • In a hard conversation, be deliberate about what you say last — it's what actually gets remembered, so don't let it be an afterthought while the substance gets spent early.
